Sound restoring of the film heritage, archival discoveries
Topics:
How do experts restore the sound of film heritage? How is the soundtrack for silent movie composed today? Can a lost soundtrack be replaced? There are 101 different types of sound recording systems sound designers have been worked with during film history – is it possible to restore a soundtrack that has been recorded with one microphone to a Dolby Surround System compatible version? Will it be authentic at all?
We are getting an insight into the hidden secrets of sound restoration and digital sound restoration by the help of sound editors and composer experts.

Conservation of the film heritage, restoration, identification of lost films
Topics:
First ever in Hungary the film Rabmadár / Slave Girl romantic movie is screened, that was found in pieces in various European film archives. The Austrian Filmarchiv’s reseachers collected the pieces and show the whole film in Budapest! Accompanied with live piano by Ferenc Darvas!
How are the Belgian, the Danish, the Dutch, the Czech and the French Film Archives taking care of their national film heritage? How were films coloured in the 1910s? How is the European film treasury available to the public?
Danish, Dutch, French, Czech and other European experts tell their stories how they preserve, restore, identify and make the treasures of the European archives available to the public.

Sharing and transmission – festivals, cinematheques, education
Topics:
What is the difference between the Cinematheque and a film museum? How a 100-year-old film should be marketed and presented today? How has the 35 mm film in cinemas become popular again in the US? What makes the film archivators’ job exciting?
Executives of the US and European Cinematheques and festival experts share their thoughts on how and why the archive films are more and more popular today. Among others, the director of the Cannes Classics, the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival, Bologna, and the Lyon Classics Film Fairs and program directors of Yale and New York University share their experience.
